1、that用作限定词

that用作限定词是指“较远的人或者物”

eg: Look at that man over there. 瞧那边的那个男子。

I was living with my parents at that time.那时候我跟父母住在一起。

That incident changed their life.那次事故改变了他妈的生活。

2、that作代词用

1）用于指代前面提到过的想法或情形

eg: They said you wanted to talk to me. Why was that?

2）为避免重复前面已提及到的名词

eg：A recession like that of 1973-74 could put one in ten American companies into bankruptcy. 一场想1973到1974年那样的经济衰退会使1/10的美国公司破产。
